Imagine the glow that once spilled from this shade across a barnyard at dusk or a quiet small-town street. Our vintage radial wave porcelain enamel light has come to rest at Pollyanna’s Antiques, and it arrived complete with its original scrolled iron bracket.
Built to Throw Light Where It Was Needed
Porcelain enamel shades like this one were made to stand up to weather and hard use. Glassy enamel was fused onto steel at high heat, giving a tough, bright white surface that reflected light down onto the ground below. The radial wave design, with its ribs fanning out from the center to a scalloped rim, isn’t just decoration. Those ridges strengthen the steel and spread the light in a wide, even circle.
At the center you’ll find the porcelain socket, still in place, surrounded by that sweep of creamy white enamel. Around the rim, small chips show the dark steel underneath, and a few rust blooms tell the story of years spent outdoors. For collectors of industrial and farmhouse pieces, that honest wear is part of the appeal.
The Bracket Makes It Complete
Finding one of these shades with its original wrought iron bracket is a real treat. The arm is braced by bold scrolls and curls, with a length of chain and a sturdy mounting plate, all in a dark iron that sets off the white shade beautifully.
It would make a striking statement on a porch, a garage wall, a workshop, or a restaurant-style kitchen, or you can simply lean it in a corner as a sculptural piece of Americana.
Come see it in person at Pollyanna’s Antiques, 287 North Avenue in downtown Mt. Clemens. We’re open Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10 to 4, and this piece is even more impressive up close.
