Follow the white rabbit, and you just might end up at Pollyanna’s Antiques. This dapper ceramic white rabbit stands tall in a glossy black tuxedo, balancing a tray of fruit as though the Mad Hatter’s tea party is about to begin.
A Little Wonderland Whimsy
Ever since Lewis Carroll sent Alice tumbling down the rabbit hole in 1865, the White Rabbit has been one of literature’s most beloved characters, always in a hurry and always impeccably dressed. This fellow carries that same storybook spirit. With his long upright ears, pink nose and bright amber eye, he gazes off to the side with an expression somewhere between polite and mischievous, as though he’s just remembered he’s late for a very important date.
Glazed Down to the Last Grape
The craftsmanship is full of charming detail. His tuxedo is finished in a deep, mirror-shiny black glaze, with a crisp white collar and a tiny bow tie at the throat. On his tray sits a colorful spread of hand-glazed fruit, with lemons, a pear and a cluster of purple grapes beside a tall green bottle. He stands on a mossy green base, his polished shoes planted firmly as he waits to serve.
He’d be a delightful host on a sideboard or bar cart, a conversation piece on a bookshelf next to a well-loved copy of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, or a welcoming figure in an entryway. Collectors of rabbits, storybook characters or whimsical ceramics will find him hard to resist.
Come meet him in person at Pollyanna’s Antiques, 287 North Avenue in downtown Mt. Clemens. We’re open Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10 to 4, and unlike his famous cousin, he’s in no hurry to leave.
